Detour Notice: West Valley Drive, Bristol

Bristol, VA; May 18, 2020 – Slated to begin Wednesday, May 20, 2020, BVU Authority’s contractor, Boring Contractors, announces that West Valley Drive between Lee Highway and Long Crescent Drive will be closed to thru traffic for approximately two to three weeks. All thru traffic will be directed to follow posted detour signage along Virginia Drive in accordance with the City of Bristol’s approved traffic plan.

Residents located within the closure area will retain travel access to and from their homes. Additionally, customers within the project area can expect no impact to their electric, water or wastewater services during construction.  A brief detour map is provided below.

This project was approved by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and will replace aging and broken sewer lines and manholes in BVU’s wastewater system. Proactive repairs will ensure reliable wastewater services for the coming decades.  

Work will generally be performed between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday with possible construction noise and the movement of construction equipment and materials. The project will not require access to customer’s homes or commercial buildings. Additional details for affected properties have been provided through direct customer outreach.
