How to Choose a Solar Developer: Tips from BVU Authority

As homeowners and businesses look to install solar panels to reduce energy costs and lower their carbon footprint, it’s important to partner with a reputable and trustworthy solar developer. Unfortunately, not all solar developers are equal, and some may take advantage of those new to the process. Here are some tips from BVU Authority on selecting a solar developer wisely:

  • Do your research: Research the developer’s reputation, history, and customer reviews. Look for certifications from organizations such as the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) or the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP).
  • Get multiple quotes: Always obtain quotes from at least three different companies. Be wary of quotes significantly lower than others, which could indicate the use of low-quality materials or shortcuts.
  • Ask for references: A reputable solar developer should provide references from past customers. Contact these references to learn about their experience and whether they would recommend the developer.
  • Check license and insurance: Ensure the developer is licensed and insured in your state. This protects you in case of any issues during the installation process.
  • Avoid high-pressure sales tactics: Be cautious of developers who pressure you to sign contracts immediately or make promises that seem too good to be true. Take the time to carefully review any contract before signing.

At BVU Authority, we want our customers to feel confident and informed when choosing a solar developer. By following these tips, you can protect yourself from unscrupulous companies and ensure a high-quality solar installation that fits your needs and budget.

Find a Trustworthy Solar Installer with TVA's Green Connect Quality Contractor Network

TVA’s Green Connect program connects BVU Authority customers interested in solar or battery installations with a network of qualified contractors. These installers are insured, licensed, trained on TVA guidelines, and have a history of customer satisfaction. Green Connect is available for ground-mounted or structure-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and associated battery storage systems for qualifying participants. Customers must be metered and belong to a BVU Authority residential rate class.

How to Participate in Green Connect:

  1. Register for the TVA Green Connect Customer Portal at tvagreenconnect.com and complete the TVA Green Connect Participation Agreement.
  2. Select a QCN installer from the TVA Green Connect portal to design and install your qualifying system.
  3. Submit your interconnection application, interconnection agreement, and system design packet to BVU Authority.
  4. Have the system commissioned by BVU Authority following installation verification. Note: BVU Authority fees apply for each step of the interconnection process.

Sell Back Your Excess Generation

Facilities that generate power up to 80 Megawatts may qualify for TVA's Dispersed Power Production program, which allows you to sell excess generation back to TVA. Contact TVA for more information.
