$7.6M Repair Project of Beaver Creek Sewer Interceptor

Sewer Project

Washington County, VA; November 20, 2023 – BVU Authority is set to embark on a significant construction project with a contract valued at approximately $7.6 million. The initiative focuses on the repair of the Beaver Creek sewer interceptor line, a crucial component of the region's wastewater infrastructure.

The construction contract has been awarded to Portland Utilities Construction Company, LLC, and involves addressing approximately 19,000 linear feet of sewer line along Beaver Creek. The project is slated to span from Bristol's Exit 7 area near the Verizon store to the Exit 5 area in proximity to the American Merchant manufacturing facility.

To ensure efficiency and minimize disruptions, the project will be executed in phases. This comprehensive approach includes the cleaning, repair, and lining of existing infrastructure, essential for the system's long-term reliability.

Throughout the construction process, BVU will implement bypass pumping, a measure aimed at maintaining uninterrupted service for our customers. In addition, water-tight manhole lids will be installed along the entire project path, enhancing the system's resilience and durability.

The Lane Group, local engineering firm, will provide construction management services for the duration of the project, which is anticipated to take six months for completion.

The primary objective of this initiative is to reduce inflow and infiltration (I&I) into the collection system, contributing to the enhanced performance and longevity of BVU Authority’s wastewater infrastructure. This project represents the sixth major sewer system rehabilitation undertaken by BVU Authority in recent years, reinforcing its commitment to the community's well-being by ensuring the reliability and sustainability of its utility services.

BVU Authority secured low-interest funding through the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VA DEQ), demonstrating its dedication to implementing cost-effective and sustainable infrastructure solutions for the benefit of the community.
